And Here Come The Photos (Now With Video Link)

Ike Davis, savaged by Jeff Francoeur during Kevin Burkhardt’s interview (shaving cream hits about 0:45 in SNY.TV post-game report) on SNY after his 2-for-4, 1 RBI debut tonight:

I don’t know about you, but I think at lower left Davis looks either like Mr. Met, or the Full Body Cast Soldier in “Catch-22.” The best part of this was Davis continuing to answer Burkhardt’s question as he desperately tried to avoid suffocation.
And to steal some of my own photos: I mentioned posing Davis’s father Ron on July 30, 1978, a day after his major league debut which temporarily left him with an ERA of infinity. That’s a rather discolored version of it on the left (look in his glasses – the photographer is reflected). On the right a somewhat more professional job from 1980.

LOL at the pictures and video of the shaving cream ambush……they didn’t show much of it but it was still amusing.

It’s sort of embarrassing that the Cubs lost so badly to the Mets. I’m torn between rooting for my Cubbies to beat them in the game later today or hoping that the Mets win and begin to get out of the cellar ;)

Off topic: Well, this explains why you were so quiet on Twitter tonight. I just hope you aren’t upset that I smacked down the hatefull trolls that were launching smarmy personal attacks at yourself as well as at me. I despise being bullied like that and dislike seeing it done to others, especially you, Keith. You’ve had enough emotional pain to deal with this past year with the loss of both of your parents…….the petty cruelty of those attacks on your personal life is something you really don’t need to suffer.

I know you enjoy playing “whack-a-hole” but there are limits to my patience with being attacked like that and, if I continue to draw their ire, I will report them for the hate-spamming trolls they are. I do read their comment histories before blocking and reporting them, so I know exactly how much crap they’re throwing at you…..at least the ones who also attack me, that is. My apoligies for stealing some of your fun(if fun it is) in smacking down the trolls, and I hope you will forgive me and possibly follow me so that you’ll know who the trolls are and when they’re attacking. @NightOwl4Music

I know that you are aware of Fantography.net, since I discovered a photo of a very young Baseball Nerd shyly avoiding eye contact with the camera there. However, I thought I would remind you that Andy Strasberg – formerly of the San Diego Padres – is collecting photographs taken by fans, and I am sure he would love to have the Ron Davis 1978 debut photo as part of the collection.

Take Care,
Joe

Hey Keith,

Have you seen ESPN’s 30 for 30 short film on Daniel Okrent’s invention of rotisserie baseball? Definitely suited for the baseball nerd. A necessary piece of creation mythology for the internet age.
