When the Nazis took total control of Hungary in 1944, the Holocaust followed. In two months, 440,000 Hungarian Jews were deported to death camps.

To survive, George, then a teenager, collaborated with the Nazis.

First he worked for the Judenrat. That was the Jewish council set up by the Nazis to do their dirty work for them. Instead of the Nazis rounding up Jews every day for the trains, they delegated that murderous task to Jews who were willing to do it to survive another day at the expense of their neighbours.

Theodore hatched a better plan for his son. He bribed a non-Jewish official at the agriculture ministry to let George live with him. George helped the official confiscate property from Jews.

By collaborating with the Nazis, George survived the Holocaust. He turned on other Jews to spare himself.

Levant distorted the conduct of Soros, who was 14 years old at the time. As Media Matters has noted, Soros, who discussed his childhood in Nazi-occupied Hungary in a 1998 interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes, was only a young teen during the Holocaust and was under the care of a Hungarian Agriculture Ministry employee, posing as his godson. On 60 Minutes, Soros said that he accompanied his “godfather” as he went to oversee the confiscation of property from Hungarian Jews.

As biographer Michael Kaufman wrote in Soros: The Life and Times of a Messianic Billionaire (page 37):

This is what actually happened. Shortly after George went to live with Baumbach, the man was assigned to take inventory on the vast estate of Mor Kornfeld, an extremely wealthy aristocrat of Jewish origin. The Kornfeld family had the wealth, wisdom, and connections to be able to leave some of its belongings behind in exchange for permission to make their way to Lisbon. Baumbach was ordered to go to the Kornfeld estate and inventory the artworks, furnishings, and other property. Rather than leave his “godson” behind in Budapest for three days, he took the boy with him. As Baumbach itemized the material, George walked around the grounds and spent time with Kornfeld’s staff. It was his first visit to such a mansion, and the first time he rode a horse. He collaborated with no one and he paid attention to what he understood to be his primary responsibility: making sure that no one doubted that he was Sandor Kiss.

Sun issues correction, apologizes to Soros. In a September 18 correction, the Toronto Sun, Sun Media, and Levant retracted the false Nazi collaborator claim and apologized:

On September 5, 2010, a column by Ezra Levant contained false statements about George Soros and his conduct as a young teenager in Nazi-occupied Hungary.

Upon receiving a letter of complaint from Mr. Soros’s legal counsel on September 13, 2010, Sun Media Corporation always intended to publish a retraction and apology for this column. KSFO apologized for “not accurate” attacks on Soros. On February 26, 2007, KSFO’s program director issued a correction to the Morning Show hosts’ smears of Soros, saying that their comments were “not accurate” and that the station “regrets that they were broadcast.” and KO even called out Beck on this lie, wow the ADL got on someone case for it For a political commentator or entertainer to have the audacity to say—inaccurately—that there’s a Jewish boy sending Jews to death camps, as part of a broader assault on Mr. Soros, that’s horrific.
While I, too, may disagree with many of Soros’ views and analysis on the issues, to bring in this kind of innuendo about his past is unacceptable. To hold a young boy responsible for what was going on around him during the Holocaust as part of a larger effort to denigrate the man is repugnant.
The Holocaust was a horrific time, and many people had to make excruciating choices to ensure their survival. George Soros has been forthright about his childhood experiences and his family’s history, and there the matter should rest. Here is another Fox news commentator Glenn Beck may have thought he had an easy target in the controversial financier George Soros – but he didn’t reckon with Jews who care about Holocaust remembrance and don’t take kindly to reckless charges being thrown into the political maelstrom.
“It’s totally over the top,” said Anti-Defamation League director Abraham Foxman about Beck’s latest outburst.
What Beck said: Soros, a child in Hungary who survived by living with a non-Jewish family, “used to go around with this anti-Semite and deliver papers to the Jews and confiscate their property and then ship them off. And George Soros was part of it. He would help confiscate the stuff. It was frightening. Here’s a Jewish boy helping send the Jews to the death camps. And I am certainly not saying that George Soros enjoyed that, even had a choice. I mean, he’s 14 years old. He was surviving. So I’m not making a judgment. That’s between him and God. As a 14-year-old boy, I don’t know what you would do. I don’t know what you would do. But you would think that there would be some remorse as an 80-year-old man or a 40-year-old man or a 20-year-old man, when it was all over, you would do some soul searching and say, ‘What did I do? What did I do?’”
Soros, Beck went on, “is not a fan of the state of Israel. George Soros is — many people would call him an anti-Semite. I will not. I don’t know enough about all of his positions on Jews. I know his mother, in George Soros’s own words, his mother was an anti-Semite. And so he just has this weird, weird world view. He’s also an atheist.”
Beck said he wasn’t judging Soros – but that’s sure what it sounded like to a lot of listeners.
The ADL’s Abe Foxman is also a child survivor who lived only because his parents turned him over to his Catholic nanny.
“Look, I spit on Jews when I was six years old,” Foxman told me. “Does that make me an anti-Semite?”
The issue of the Shoah “is so sensitive that I’m not even sure Holocaust survivors themselves are willing to make such judgments,” Foxman went on “For a political commentator or entertainer to have the audacity to say, there’s a Jewish boy sending Jews to death camps, that’s horrific. It’s totally off limits and over the top.”
Beck’s comments “were either out of total ignorance or total insensitivity,” he said.
Elan Steinberg, vice president of the The American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants, called the Beck accusations “monstrous; you don’t make such accusations without proof, and I have seen no such proof.”
Beck’s charges, he said, “go to the heart of the instrumentalization and trivialization of the Holocaust.”
Simon Greer, president of the Jewish Funds for Justice, met with Fox News executives in July to discuss Beck’s “constant and often inappropriate invocation of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany on the air.”
Greer and Rabbi Steve Gutow of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) received a handwritten note from Beck saying “Please know that I understand the sensitivity and sacred nature of this dark chapter in Human History. Thank you for your candor and helpful thoughts.”
Yesterday’s on-air comments by Beck “made a mockery of their professed understanding,” Greer said in a statement. “In an effort to demonize a political opponent, Beck and Fox News scurrilously attacked George Soros, a prominent Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor. No one who truly understands ‘the sensitivity and sacred nature’ of the Holocaust would deliberately and grotesquely mis-characterize the experience of a 13 year old Jew in Nazi-occupied Hungary whose father hid him with a non-Jewish family to keep him alive.”
Interfaith Alliance President Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy said Beck’s “use of the Holocaust to discredit George Soros is beyond repugnant. The Holocaust is one of history’s most tragic events and those who survived it are owed our enduring respect.”
Why is Soros important to the far right?
Could it be because he is a major contributor to Democratic causes, and because they are trying to make his money radioactive to their political adversaries? Again this gets debunked again Today on his Fox News program, Glenn Beck again falsely accused Jewish philanthropist George Soros of being a Holocaust collaborator. Beck used this false attack to buttress his Soros conspiracies, suggesting that “the lesson he learned” from his supposed actions are what informs the shadowy tactics he is supposedly using to destroy the U.S. currency and government:

I’m going to concentrate on the fact that I think the lesson he learned in that horrific year of 1944 is if you hide your true identity you can gain power, you can survive. And those who are seen as disadvantaged or handicapped and don’t hide their identity, well, they don’t survive.

On Tuesday, during the first part of his three-day Fox News attack on Soros, Beck falsely suggested that Soros was a Holocaust collaborator, and that Soros felt no guilt about it. Yesterday on his radio show, Beck went so far as to suggest that Soros helped “send the Jews” to “death camps” during the Holocaust.

These attacks led to widespread condemnation from prominent Jewish leaders and Holocaust survivors. Anti-Defamation League national director Abraham H. Foxman called the comments “completely inappropriate, offensive and over the top,” as well as “unacceptable” and “horrific.” Elan Steinberg, vice president of the the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants, called the Beck accusations “monstrous.” And Simon Greer, president of the Jewish Funds for Justice, said that Beck had “deliberately and grotesquely mischaracterize[d]” Soros’ experience and engaged in “a form of Holocaust revisionism.”

But today, in a live Fox broadcast wrapping up his Soros attacks, Beck returned to the attack. He said that Soros had “to go and confiscate the property of your fellow Jews” during the Holocaust, and while he said that “I am not blaming or questioning a 14-year-old or his parents for trying to keep him alive trying to keep the family alive,” he nonetheless attacked Soros because he “has never once said he regretted it.” Beck went on to question how Soros’ experiences “affected his feelings on Israel, which he does not support.”

In fact, as we’ve repeatedly documented, Soros has said that he felt no guilt about his actions because he “had no role in taking away that property.”

From Soros’ interview with Steve Kroft, aired on the December 20, 1998 edition of 60 Minutes:

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That’s right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that’s–that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not–not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t–you don’t see the connection. But it was–it created no–no problem at all.

KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

Mr. SOROS: No.

KROFT: For example that, ‘I’m Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.’ None of that?

Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c–I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn’t be there, because that was–well, actually, in a funny way, it’s just like in markets–that if I weren’t there–of course, I wasn’t doing it, but somebody else would–would–would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the–whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the–I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

In Soros: The Life and Times of a Messianic Billionaire, Michael T. Kaufman detailed Soros’s reaction during the interview, as well as Soros’ actions in Nazi-occupied Hungary, noting that Soros “collaborated with no one”:

We pointed this out after Beck first attacked Soros for not feeling guilt for supposedly “taking the property from the Jews as a teenager.” Nonetheless, and in spite of fierce condemnation from the Jewish community, Beck returned to the attack tonight:

On the October 5, 2010, edition of his Fox News show, Beck continued his smear campaign against George Soros, saying that “many, including the Malaysian prime minister, believe it was billionaire speculator George Soros who helped trigger the [Southeast Asian] economic meltdown” in 1997, a reference to former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s false and anti-Semitic claim that Soros was part of a Jewish “agenda” to collapse Southeast Asian currencies. In an October 10, 1997, report from the Malaysian newspaper Berita Harian (excerpted by BBC Summary of World Broadcasts, accessed via Nexis), Mahathir was quoted as saying: “We do not want to say that this is a plot by the Jews, but in reality it is a Jew who triggered the currency plunge, and coincidentally Soros is a Jew. It is also a coincidence that the Malaysians are mostly Muslim.” From the report:

Kuala Terengganu, 10th October: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that the government suspects that the Jews have an agenda to destroy the economy of this country and other Muslim countries. Also Dr Mahathir did not reject the possibility that the attack on the local currency was to shut his mouth so that he would stop criticizing George Soros, a Jew who hailed from Hungary. “We do not want to say that this is a plot by the Jews, but in reality it is a Jew who triggered the currency plunge, and coincidentally Soros is a Jew. It is also a coincidence that the Malaysians are mostly Muslim.”

“Indeed, the Jews are not happy to see Muslims. If it were Palestine, the Jews would rob Palestinians. Thus this is what they are doing to our country,” he said when referring to Soros’ involvement in the depreciation of the ringgit.

According to an October 11, 1997, Agence France-Presse article (from Nexis), Mahathir later denied that he was suggesting a Jewish agenda resulted in his country’s economic crisis:

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad Saturday said he did not accuse the Jews of undermining the economy of Malaysia and other Moslem countries.

“I merely stated that this person (American financier George Soros) is Jewish,” Mahathir was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency in the Moslem dominated eastern coastal state of Terengganu.

As AFP reported in an October 15, 2006, article, Mahathir met with Soros and said of their meeting: “Mr Soros said he was not involved in the devaluation of the Malaysian currency and that other people were involved. And I have accepted that.”

Beck: Soros is a “puppet master” looking to create a “new world order.” During the November 3, 2010, edition of his Fox News show, Beck said that Soros was the “puppet master” who was “on the other end of Barack’s BlackBerry.” Beck went on to suggest Soros was using the Federal Reserve to create a “new world order” (transcript from Nexis).

Beck: Soros and his “minion, Al Gore” have “been preparing this new world order for a long time. They helped create it.” From the September 23, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck (from Nexis):

BECK: This is the way of the world. The elites have decided that the world is unsustainable. And so, we’ve got to have cute, little cooking stove with the Land Rover, and redistribute the wealth. And that way, we’ll be able to have a global system and everything will be on the road to recovery — not for Homer, but for these guys.

You notice I said that we — we’ll have global governance run by elites. I’m not an elite. Are you elite?

This is about Land Rover and Merrill Lynch and JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. That’s what this is about. Those companies that are still in existence, they stand to make billions every year. The rich — and I don’t mean the rich guy, you know, who you work for at the factory that you see every day. Hey, Bill the rich millionaire. I don’t mean that guy.

I mean these guys, George Soros, spooky dudes who are waiting over here to buy the cook stove. Yes, and I got my minion, Al Gore. And we are going to make cook stoves for everybody. Well, not everybody, but we will have plenty of food for our cook stoves.

People are writing our policy over cocktail parties, pushing the climate change, carbon trade garbage and getting richer and richer and richer on whose money? Your dollars. Yours. They are taking it through your tax dollars.

You have nothing to do with it. We are buying cook stoves!

The regular CEOs are freaking out right now. Most of them voted for these clowns, but they’re freaking out now because they can’t keep the doors open. They know we’re in trouble.

But those are the regular CEOs. Not the Soros type players, the globalists. They have been preparing this new world order for a long time. They helped create it. Look at how Al Gore has positioned himself. He has profited on the hysteria he created, increasing his personal wealth 50 to 100 times or more.

Look, I got no problem anybody wants to be a capitalist. I got no problem on that. But while you’re increasing the fortunes of the elites, they’re also galvanizing their power and setting up global governance and he is living in a mansion that is using 10 times the amount of electricity that you and I are supposed to use.

Beck: Soros is “one of the guys looking to replace the capitalist system once it’s been destroyed.” On the June 21, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck, Beck said, “I don’t know if [Soros] is a radical that’s been trying to implement the Cloward and Piven strategy on collapsing the system.” Beck went on to claim that Soros is “one of the guys looking to replace the capitalist system once it has been destroyed.” This accusation is based on a distortion of a Soros quote. Soros said that the international currency system — not the capitalist system — is “broken and needs to be reconstituted.”

Beck: Soros is orchestrating a collapse of American currency to enrich himself. On the October 5, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck, Beck claimed that Soros “thought the dollar needs to be devalued” and cited a Financial Times op-ed in which Soros argued for more stimulus spending. Beck said, “Spooky dude says spend more money.” He added: “I don’t know if this is the start of the latest, you know, Soros push to collapse a currency. I don’t know if this is it; oh, but it’s coming. Be prepared, because powerful people like George Soros would like that to happen. Because they’re preparing. Have you?”

Beck: Soros “likes to crush the market,” then “makes a financial move” at “the right time.” On the October 18, 2010, edition of his radio show, Beck said:

Please, watchdogs, keep your eye on George Soros. George Soros’ time is about to come. He is a guy who likes to crush the market and he waits and he positions, and then he makes a financial move. He waits for the right time, and his time is coming, where he’s gonna say, “I don’t know if I have confidence in this currency anymore,” and it’s over.

He’s doing exactly the same thing now with the confidence in the Democratic Party. Here’s George Soros, a guy who is funding to what, $400 million? Some of these organizations — his Open Society shadow government — and this guy has just come out and said he’s not going to help the Democrats at all, because it’s inevitable. George Soros’ power is not in a star chamber, his power is — you remember the E.F. Hutton commercials? “If E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen.” That’s George Soros. The guy’s practically a damn country, and when he says something, others take notice. So he’s been telegraphing, “I’m not going to spend any money.” Why would you do that? “I’m not going to spend any money in this election for any of these Democrats.” That freezes the money of others, they’re like, “You know what, if George Soros ain’t gonna do it — if he doesn’t think it’s worth doing, I ain’t gonna to do it.”

That’s exactly what he does on the economy, and I want you to watch, because it happens every time. He will come out between the election and the bond auction, which I think is in March, and he is gonna come out with a statement that says, “This government, now of the Republicans, is irresponsible because of x, y, or z. They’re spending too much, they’re not cutting enough, they’re” — whatever it is, I don’t know what combination it’ll be, but he’ll say, “This — I don’t have confidence that this government is going to be able to pull through this economic crisis with these kinds of things, I’m looking at maybe the United States currency not being a good investment.” And it will be over.

Beck: Soros controls the Democratic Party and “the left”

Beck: Democrats “were eaten” by “the labor unions, the communists, the radicals, the globalists, George Soros.” During the May 12, 2010, edition of his Fox News show, Beck criticized Republican Sen. Bob Bennett (UT) for “working with Democrats.” Beck said, “And again, let me give the hot news flash to the ‘New York Times.’ Bob Bennett and anyone else living under the illusion of a true Democratic Party — what are you smoking? The Democrats don’t exist anymore. They were eaten by the progressives — the labor unions, the communists, the radicals, the globalists, George Soros — yes” (from Nexis).

Beck: “You’ll understand the role that George Soros plays” in the Democratic Party being “over,” “gone.” On the November 9, 2010, edition of his radio show, Glenn Beck said:

Tonight is the beginning of the revealing of the puppet master. It is kind of a — there is so much to tell. There’s a lifetime to tell about George Soros, and it is very complex. But we go into the beginnings of the puppets, the strings. I’ve asked you before and I’ll ask again — this week especially — do not believe anything I tell you, because I tell it to you. Make sure you do your own homework.

If this is the first time seeing this program — well, I think you’re in for an eye-opener, too, because you’ve heard me described as a guy who’s just full of hate, a racist, a conspiracy theorist, just trying to get people to blow stuff up or create another Oklahoma City. That’s the latest from the Soros clan. Well, if that were true, then America just isn’t the place that I thought it was. Most likely not the place you thought it was. I mean a racist, hate-filled host who is openly trying to get people to be violent would have zero viewers in the America I know and love.

Beck: Soros controls the media

Beck: Soros has “purchased the system” of mass media. During the November 8, 2010, edition of his Fox News show, Beck said, “The press gets a lot of their money from George Soros. He has purchased the system.” Beck went on to purportedly show “the media purchased by George Soros” and who are “in the bag for him.” Beck also said that “the press has protected the puppet master for a very long time,” but that his show was “the canary in the coal mine.”

Beck: Soros is “buying journalists.” On the October 20, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck, Beck said:

America, George Soros is buying up your whole damn town. Yesterday, we told you the Tides Foundation is funding the Huffington Post investigative arm. That’s the arm that says, “Get him!”

Then, like Soros is funding now Media Matters, you have Soros basically announcing today, “Get him!” And then you have a new “Get him” department in NPR, $1.8 million to buy 100 journalists, again funded by George Soros.

So, really, this wanted poster, “Dead or Alive,” is really only 3 or $4 million of his money. We don’t know how much money Tides has given to the Huffington Post Investigative Fund. They like to keep their donors anonymous. Check their website.

That’s weird, because nobody’s saying that in the press when the president is saying about shadow organizations buying elections and stuff. They’re not buying elections only. They’re buying journalists — NPR, Media Matters.

Beck lashes out at “George Soros media networks.” From the July 21, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck (from Nexis):

BECK: How many times have you read in the media things like — oh, here’s one. Beck distorts Obama administration’s language. You know, this is from George Soros media networks, but it’s also — it’s also on “Think Progress,” George Soros, and “Huffington Post,” all the — you know.

How about things like — “Glenn Beck and fixed news launch another smear campaign? “Glenn Beck takes Fred Nugeberger (ph) out of context.” “Glenn Beck baselessly distorts.” Glenn Beck, crazy man, jumps to conclusions.” Yes.

And most of these blogs and the media outlets weren’t all owned by George Soros and paid as much attention to the administration and government as they did trying to attack me and faux news — I love it, I’ve got a gem! “Faux news.” F-A-U-X. Oh, that’s brilliant!

If they would pay attention to the real news, the republic probably would be safer. But after seeing the news like we did from the “Daily Caller” and “Journo-List” that we showed you yesterday — and there are more today, journalists showing their true colors. Let’s show you that in a minute. It’s easy to see why no one in the media bothers asking this administration questions.

Instead, the outlets say — I’m the one jumping to conclusions. I’m the one smearing and lying. Oh, man!

Beck: Soros controls elections

Beck suggested Soros was behind purported scheme to steal MN Senate election. On the January 18, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck, Beck said of Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, “He is the Katherine Harris. He was an ACORN-supported guy, handpicked by the George Soros-funded SOS Project. SOS is designed specifically to have control of the power in close elections — lesson learned apparently.” On October 13, Beck said of Soros, “the guy who spent the last few elections donating tens of millions of dollars, trying to elect progressive and push the progressive issues, started SOS, where you can control the secretary of state — you know, the people who are in charge of the recounts in states like, oh, I don’t know, Minnesota, Al Franken.” (From Nexis.)

In fact, the suggestion that George Soros, Mark Ritchie, or anyone else stole the Minnesota Senate election is completely fabricated. In its decision rejecting Norm Coleman’s appeal of the decision declaring Franken the winner, the Minnesota Supreme Court stated that “[n]o claim of fraud in the election or during the recount was made by either party” and that “Coleman’s counsel confirmed at oral argument that Coleman makes no claim of fraud on the part of either voters or election officials.”

Beck: Soros is bankrolling U.S. elections. From the January 28, 2010, edition of Beck’s Fox News show, in which he discussed Obama’s State of the Union remarks on the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission (from Nexis):

It is good news that Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League has condemned Glenn Beck for using Nazi imagery and themes in his war against George Soros, even if the next day he retracted some (not most) of his attack.

In fact, Foxman, who survived the Holocaust as a small boy posing as a Catholic in Poland, stood firmly on his belief that Beck’s attack on a 14 year old Soros for trying to survive is “monstrous.” But he was forced to utter the words that Beck is not anti-Jewish to please his dear friend, Rupert Murdoch, who owns Glenn Beck.

I am proud that Media Matters for America is doing everything we can to expose Beck’s libels. So are other liberal groups — some of which, like us, have benefitted from Soros’s philanthropy. (Like Beck, I know that Democratic and progressive causes would be much worse off if it wasn’t for Soros and other incredibly generous progressive –and often Jewish — philanthropists). Also playing a great role is Keith Olbermann who uses facts and documentation to prove that a scared Jewish boy in Nazi Europe never was a collaborator with Nazis, a theme developed so that Beck could say “I’m not the Nazi here…”

Beck is entitled to hate Soros for helping to keep progressive causes alive. But he has crossed a huge line by attacking him by way of his ethnic background. And when he accuses this Holocaust survivor of collaborating with Nazis at age 14, he simply moves into the world of deluded anti-Semitism. And when he uses the Nazi mantra that Jews are the “puppet masters” who rule the world, he is ready to be a columnist for the Thunderbolt. (I also expect Germany to ban Beck from traveling there; it takes a hard line against allowing Nazi apologists into the country).

But where is the bastion of the American Jewish establishment, the self-proclaimed battler against anti-Semitism, the American Jewish Committee? One would think that given its history (back in the 1930′s, it both opposed establishment of a Jewish state and urged other Jewish organizations to not to boycott the German regime), it would be first in line to condemn Beck’s attack on Jews today.

If a Muslim kid pushes a Jewish kid in Sweden, AJC is there. If a Palestinian textbook implies that Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem, is the capital of Israel, the AJC is there.

But if one of the most powerful opinion leaders in America uses the airwaves for three days of smears against Jews that resemble Der Sturmer, the AJC disappears. (It pains me to note that if Rabbi Meir Kahane was around, Beck would have to hide in his cellar. Kahame, racist that he was about other groups, believed in fighting any anti-Semites or Holocaust revisionists, let alone an American talk show host who attacked Jews for surviving the Shoah.)

Of course, AJC’s executive director, David Harris, doesn’t like Soros any more than Beck does. Why? Because Soros supports J Street (and doesn’t give to the American Jewish Committee on top of it).

David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee, said in an interview, “I can only assume [J Street officials] have concluded that associating George Soros with an allegedly quote-unquote ‘pro-Israel organization’ may not be convincing to many who have followed George Soros and his views on the Middle East.”

But that is not the main reason AJC and the other “Israel is all we care about” organizations are silent about Beck’s attacks on Soros. The main reason is that they have redefined anti-Semitism as not supporting the government of Israel. For Harris, it does not seem to matter if you hate Jews, so long as you don’t criticize Israel. Foxman, who unlike Harris lived through the Shoah, sees it differently. He knows anti-Semitism when he sees it. (The people who were trying to kill him as a child were not “anti-Israel” per se).
Note to Harris: I forbid you, and the whole AIPAC single-issue crowd, from ever using the term Six million Jews again. Six million Jews were killed but you may not use that figure. You must reduce that number by two-thirds. Because two-thirds of the six million were secular or socialist or Communist or converts to Christianity or anti-Zionist or socialist Zionists or assimilated or whatever you think Soros is. You must limit yourselves to invoking those Jews whose counterparts you defend today. If you have no interest in defending these people, as Jews, in life, you are forbidden to invoke their memories in death.

The rest of us can still mourn all six million Jews who were murdered in the Shoah, even the “bad Jews” you don’t like. After all, we defend the ones who are still around.
